Graduated from Hacettepe University Department of Food Engineering in 1986. Throughout her professional career, worked in the private sector as a production and quality control engineer; at the Turkish Milk Industry Organization and Meat and Fish Organization as a production and inspection engineer. Served as Head of the Food Codex Division where food legislation was formulated at the then Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and as Head of the Foreign Food Trade Division. In this period, defended national viewpoints by participating in numerous international regulatory drafting meetings on behalf of the Ministry. After working in the Department of Foreign Relations and European Union at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, retired from the Ministry in 2008. Between 2012 and 2019, taught “Food Inspection and Legal Regulations” as a part-time lecturer at Near East University Department of Nutrition and Dietetics in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Currently serves as the Coordinator of the Food Safety Congress and as the food safety training coordinator and instructor in the EU-funded “Empowering Women through Cooperatives Project”. Conducts food legislation training and consultancy for the sector.
In addition to the current project, has participated in numerous EU projects, serving recently as expert/key expert in “Safe Food, Safe Future”, “Agricultural and Food Ethics”, and “Technical Assistance for Raising Awareness of Farmers and Food Processors on IPARD Support, EU Environmental and Hygiene Standards”.
Founding member of the TMMOB Chamber of Food Engineers. Served as President of the Chamber's Board of Directors for 4 terms and is currently a member of the Chamber's Honor Board. Board member of the Food Technology Association and the Association for Ethics in Agriculture and Food (TARGET). Advisory board member of the Food Safety Association and food engineering departments of various universities.
Co-author of the Turkish legislation chapter in “Global Food Safety Legislation (2014)” edited by Dr. Evelyn Kirchsteiger-Meier and Tobias Baumgartner; the “Food Safety” chapter in “Food Microbiology (2019)” edited by Prof. Dr. Kadir Halkman; the “Function and Safety of Food Additives” chapter in “Current Topics in Nutrition and Dietetics 9 (2020)” edited by Prof. Dr. Muhittin Tayfur and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Perim F. Türker; and the “Food Safety Policies and Legal Regulations” chapter in “Healthy Kitchen (2021)” edited by Prof. Dr. Birol Saygı. Has published numerous articles in industry journals and the national press.
